I was a successful custom jewelery designer and goldsmith in Vancouver for 7 year before deciding to
move out of the city and change my lifestyle. In 1986 I bought 2 acres on Salt Spring Island, lived in a
tent and built my own cabin, which I lived in for 11 years. I am a self taught artist and began my
exploration of various painting styles, materials and techniques during this time. I worked in pastel,
watercolour, acrylic, clay, soapstone and coloured pencil. It wasn't until 2002, after moving to Victoria,
that I discoverred oils.
I am inspired by the bright colours of Mexico, where I lived and painted for 7 months in San Miguel de
Allende. Having fallen in love with Mexico, I returned as a human rights observer for the indigenous
people of Chiapas.
The beauty of the West Coast also fills my life and my work and I draw from it continually. I try to
incorporate emotion in each piece, whether it is peace and thoughtfulness through a quiet
contemplation of natural patterns, or stimulating through colour and energetic movement.
My work includes semi-abstract figures, large, bright still lifes, subtle watercolours and large paintings of
close up views of nature.
I am a full-time artist and also teach Oil Painting Classes for absolute beginners, in Victoria, BC. These
painting classes teach various oil painting techniques, colour theory, mixing colour, paint application,
depth, shading, composition and more.
